The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella -- A Book Review

Workaholic attorney Samantha Sweeting has just done the unthinkable. She’s made a mistake so huge, it’ll wreck any chance of a partnership. Going into utter meltdown, she walks out of her London office, gets on a train, and ends up in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she’s mistaken for an interviewee and finds herself being offered a job as housekeeper. Her employers have no idea they’ve hired a lawyer—and Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. She can’t sew on a button, bake a potato, or get the #@%# ironing board to open. How she takes a deep breath and begins to cope—and finds love—is a story as delicious as the bread she learns to bake. But will her old life ever catch up with her? And if it does…will she want it back?

  1. I really enjoyed this book. I have not read any of the Shopaholic series, although they have been recommended to me. The main character had depth and was funny. While the plot was predictible, it still was enjoying to read. I recommend it as a fun summer title.

  2. I just read Can You Keep a Secret by the same author. I read it in 24 hours but it was fun. A nice escape and I found myself laughing out loud at parts. Ha!
The heroine's secrets are things like what her real clothes size is and how she waters her co-worker's plant with orange juice and so on. The kind of secrets we all have.
    It's just funny.
It's sorta like/reminds me of Bridget Jones.
I didn't see the need to write a separate review so I didn't!
I have also read this title. I didn't think I had...but it was a book someone at work had left in the break room and I would read it on my breaks. I know how it started and I seem to think I remember the end, but for some reason the middle is fuzzy. Maybe since I was only reading it on my breaks I missed a chapter or something? I like stories of mistaken identity. ;0)

  3. I also have both books and I have to hand it to Sophie Kinsella, she totally makes a laugh out loud book!!! Seriously, I know when I pick up one her pieces, I will be in for a good time. maybe I am just blonde and ditzy, but I can totally see myself getting into some of those predicaments. Maybe not quite that bad....but on the milder side!!! I really enjoy her writing style, and as Lisa points out, it is an awesome FAST read for a great escape!!
