Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life? Light tests the boundaries of the Death Note's powers as L and the police begin to close in. Luckily Light's father is the head of the Japanese National Police Agency and leaves vital information about the case lying around the house. With access to his father's files, Light can keep one step ahead of the authorities. But who is the strange man following him, and how can Light guard against enemies whose names he doesn't know?
I will also let you know how I like the next one.....

The first volume of 13, I should have bought the box set because I am hooked. I already ordered vol. 2. There is also an anime series and 3 live action movies. This manga series was recommended by a blogger on Borders.co.uk so I took a chance and I’m glad I did.
ReplyDeleteBasically Light finds a Death Notebook that a death god had dropped on Earth on purpose because he's bored. The Death Notebook has lots of rules which I find very interesting as the death god doesn’t give him all the rules and Light has to figure them out as he goes along. He has taken the role of a death god and he thinks that by killing off people who have committed crime people will stop committing crime in fear of dropping dead. It’s a nice theory. I can’t wait to see where this story goes.
Although translated into English it’s kept it in it’s original form which means you read it left to right and the book opens from the left. It didn’t take very long to get used to it…I only found myself once or twice getting to the left page and then looking to the right to find out I already read that page!!
If the description isn’t enough to make you want to read it I can’t think of anything else to say to make you!
I just finished Vol. 2 I'm hooked. I think I'll be spending the money for all 12 volumes. Plus the live action movie (made in Japan) and the cartoon series. Light doesn't just kill criminals he kills anyone who gets in his way!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! And we get to meet L!
