A Spell for Chameleon by Piers Anthony -- A Recommendation

Xanth was the enchanted land where magic ruled--where every citizen had a special spell only he could cast. That is, except for Bink of North Village. He was sure he possessed no magic, and knew that if he didn't find some soon, he would be exiled. According to the Good Magician Humpfrey, the charts said that Bink was as powerful as the King or even the Evil Magician Trent. Unfortunately, no one could determine its form. Meanwhile, Bink was in despair. If he didn't find his magic soon, he would be forced to leave....

  1. This is on my top ten favorite books of all time. It's the very first book in the Xanth series and really could stand alone on it's own. In fact I've read the first 6 books plus a few others in the Xanth series and really didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed this one! Xanth is a magical place that looks like FL and it's hidden from the "real" world which happens to focus a lot on science. It's where you get banned if you can't prove you have a magical talent, no matter how useless it is, you must have one.
Bink is the main character and you get the drift from above that he seems to be lacking in a talent and so then goes on a quest to find it. It's just a lot of fun and would recommend it to anyone who likes a little fantasy adventure.

On a side note about the author Piers Anthony is British, but his books don't exisit in major book chain stores. I was at a friends house and his dad had a first edition copy of this book and I practically yelled "You know who Piers Anthony is!!!" and he responded wide-eyed "Ummmmmm No..." then I pointed to the book on the shelf and he explained that it was his dads, but he's read them since and also has enjoyed them!!
