Book Review(s): Aurora Teagarden Mysteries 1-3 by Charlaine Harris

Real Murders: Though a small town at heart, Lawrenceton, Georgia has it's dark side and crime buffs. One of whom is libarian Aurora "Roe" Teagarden, a member of the Real Murders Club, which meets once a month to analyze famous cases. It's a harmless pastime-until the night she finds a member killed in a manner that eerily resembles the crime the club was about to discuss. Roe will have to uncover the person behind the terrifying game, as herself and all the members of Real Murders, are prime suspects or potential victims.

A Bone to Pick: Aurora "Roe" Teagarden's fortunes change when a deceased acquaintance names her as heir to a rather substantial estate, including money, jewelry, and a house complete with a skull hidden in a window seat. Roe concludes that the elderly woman has purposely left her a murder to solve. So, she must identify the victim and figure out which one of her new, ordinary-seeming neighbors is a murderer-without putting herself in deadly danger.

Three Bedrooms, One Corpse: Deciding if she wants to go into real estate becomes a life-or-death choice for Aurora "Roe" Teagarden. A naked corpse is discovered at her first house showing. And when a second body is found in another house for sale, it becomes obvious that there is a very cool killer at large in Lawrenceton, one who knows a great deal about real estate and maybe too much about Roe.

  1. I didn't want to make the post huge so here's my review:
Real Murders was fun and entertaining. Everything a mystery story should be.
A Bone to Pick did keep my interest as I wanted to know who the skull belonged too and I wanted to know what that was all about.
Three Bedrooms, One Corpse was just okay. I felt it lacked something. I think that something was suspects. I mean in a good mystery novel you want the author to give you a couple suspects and then have the real murderer be a huge surprize. In Three Bedrooms it was someone that didn't even seem part of the story. Which I felt was a little unfair since part of reading a mystery is trying to guess "who dunit!"
It makes me wonder if I should even bother with the rest of the series.
These are all short quick reads I think I read all 3 in less then 3 days and I have a toddler!! But for the most part entaining.
I have been interested in Charlaine Harris since her Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood novels have become such a huge hit. I just haven't wanted to start that series as there is already like 8 or 9 books and I don't have the time to dedicate to a series that long and it looks like there could be more! It also doesn't sound too different from Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake novels which I read the first 8 and have failed to keep up with the series as there are now like plus 12 or something.
Over all these are fun mystery stories and I would recommend them for summer vacation reads!
